Very Rare and EXCELLENT condition 1850 Presentation Foot Officers. SWORD BY CLAUBERG. Overall length: 35 3/4". Blade length: 29 1/4". Blade is etched over 2/3 of its length w/ various military & foliate motifs highlighted in gold. The ricasso is stamped with famous "W. CLAUBERG (Standing Knight) SOLINGEN" on 1 side & is etched "VIRGIL PRICE NEW YORK" on the other side. Virgil Price was a well known retailer of military & Masonic goods in New York. Virgil Price was born on 18 Sep 1823 in Rome, New York and die on 11 May 1896 Long Island, New York. Virgil was many things during his life, including locksmith, blacksmith, brass company forman, and silver plater. He is however, best known as a rather prolific inventor from about 1867-1874, and manufacturer of Masonic goods. He held numerous patents between 1867-1874 mostly dealing with Sword accoutrements.
Gilded brass hilt w/ heavy silver wire wrapped silvered grip. Extremely ornate gilded brass mounts on scabbard. Body of scabbard has a painted brown enamel finish.
CONDITION: the blade has a gray patina w/ gold highlights primarily concentrated near the ricasso. Grip shows light wear. Top 2 scabbard mounts retain most of their gold finish.

Sword is in pristine shape, no looseness or rattling, excellent peen. The scabbard is also in excellent shape with no dings. Price may be negotiable but please contact to discuss.
